Just back from a great vegan Sunday lunch at The Lastbus Works Canteen. I had been wanting to try this place for ages and so wish I had been sooner, it was amazing! A quirky wee hut in the middle of nowhere, near New Pitsligo in Aberdeenshire serving only vegan food.

We had no idea what to expect and at first were a little confused, the decor and entire setup is pretty different, very quirky, but absolutely loved it.

There is a toilet come shower circular cubicle outside in an “air raid shelter”, and paths branching off to different buildings/houses? Not too sure… Plus a bus stop where there would usually be a bus.

First we had a tea and a juice, both great and loved the teapot. Wish had gone for one of the smoothies I saw other customers having, looked great!

There was only one soup and one main on offer, we both went for the main; sausage rolls with mashed carrots and turnips with a side of greens. It was absolutely delicious, this coming from big meat eaters. The sausage roll was made from a mix of chickpeas, lentils and butter beans with lots of spices, in a lovely crispy pastry. The mashed carrot and turnip was beautifully seasoned with herbs. But the star was the green vegetables; a mix of cauliflower, broccoli and peas with toasted flaked almonds, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds in a sweet but salty dressing. Yum! Tried to ask about the recipes but there wasn’t one, it varies with what ever they fancy putting in it that day.

We had to go for a pudding with such a wide range on offer, multiple types of crumbles, muffins and cheesecake. I decided on the intriguing lemon tofu cheesecake, and my boyfriend the plum crumble. Both also served with vegan icecream. Absolutly delicious, demolished every last bit.

Will definitely be back here as soon as possible! A little out of the way but fantastic food and great atmosphere.
